Venice tourist tax: access fee
WITH THE AIM OF PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE AND RESPONSIBLE TOURISM, THE VENICE TOURIST TAX WAS INTRODUCED.
With the aim of promoting sustainable and responsible tourism, as well as encouraging the adoption of virtuous practices in the tourism sector, the Municipal Administration has introduced the Venice tourist tax as a central element of local policies. This contribution focuses on access to the Ancient City of Venice and its smaller islands in the lagoon.
The initiative aims to regulate tourist flows, and the revenues generated are intended to finance interventions in the tourism sector, including those related to the maintenance, use and recovery of local cultural and environmental assets, as well as related local public services.
In an experimental perspective for 2024, the booking of the visit and the payment of the access fee, except for the subjects belonging to the conditions of exclusion and exemption, will be applied in the following cases:
- only on the days indicated, between 8:30 and 16:00;
- for access exclusively to the Ancient City of the Municipality of Venice, excluding the smaller islands of the lagoon;
- in fixed form and equal to € 5.00.
During the days when the trial is active, those who make a daily visit to Venice are exempted from paying the access fee, but reservations are mandatory for: tourists staying in the facilities of the City of Venice; temporary residents; residents in Veneto; people with certified disabilities and an escort; those in need of medical visits or treatment; tenants, spouses, relatives up to the third degree and people visiting residents in the ancient city.
