Sustainability Strategy for the MICE Segment
The "Sustainability Management Plan for the MICE Segment" was co-financed by the European Union.
The iStars project for the Lido of Venice concluded in November 2024, leaving an important legacy for the sustainable development of the MICE segment (Meeting, Incentive, Conference, Exhibition) on the island. This project led to the creation of a dedicated Sustainability Management Plan, presented on November 24 to the members of the Consortium, to support responsible management of events and related activities.
The initiative pursued ambitious yet concrete goals, aimed at promoting greater integration between Lido businesses and sustainability practices, enhancing the island’s competitiveness as a MICE tourism destination, and aligning local strategies with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. A project that successfully combined innovation and environmental awareness to provide useful tools for a constantly evolving sector.
The project began in May 2024 with a preliminary analysis to map the needs of the MICE market and assess the sustainability level of existing activities in the area. This groundwork laid the foundation for the next phases, allowing the identification of priority intervention areas. During the summer months, from July to September, an in-depth benchmarking was conducted, analyzing the best international sustainable practices, with a particular focus on the events and business tourism sector. These findings guided the definition of the Sustainability Strategic Plan’s guidelines.
From September to November 2024, the project entered its operational phase with the development of the Plan itself, a document that includes concrete actions such as the use of local resources, waste reduction, and the adoption of environmental certifications, offering local businesses and operators a structured approach to sustainability. Finally, on November 24, the Consortium members officially presented the Sustainability Management Plan, sharing the results achieved and the next steps for its implementation.
The project’s conclusion marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Lido of Venice, which, thanks to this Plan, can further strengthen its identity as a sustainable and competitive destination, capable of combining the beauty of the territory with an innovative and responsible vision.
