From Art to Music, what does Venice have in store for us in the coming months?

Venice and its Lido have now opened their doors to summer. The city is awakening from the winter torpor and spring allergies and is ready to welcome all curious visitors to its increasingly rich array of events.

The fourth edition of the Lido Incontra project, a biennial event aimed at exploring the relationships woven by Venice with other cultures, will continue until October 14. This year, the focus is on the relationship with Germany and German culture, examined through a rich program of events. Starting with literature, the event will then move on to architecture, and finally to culinary recipes.

The 60th International Art Exhibition, curated by Adriano Pedrosa, is still ongoing. Titled “Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere,” the exhibition takes place at the traditional venues of the Giardini and the Arsenale and this year has favored the presence of artists who have never participated before. The title is inspired by a series of works created by the collective Claire Fontaine, starting in 2004, consisting of neon sculptures of various colors with the same inscription.

The 52nd International Theatre Festival, titled “NIGER ET ALBUS,” will be held from June 15 to 30, 2024, under the direction of Stefano Ricci and Gianni Forte. The four-year project by the directors for the 2024 Biennale Teatro brings to the stage the contrast between black and white, good and evil. A universal festival to open the doors of the Imagination and set sail on this multidisciplinary two-week journey through theaters, halls, and site-specific spaces of the Biennale, sharing utopian dreams and deep emotions.

On the occasion of Art Night, the annual Venetian night dedicated to art, which since 2011 has given new life to the Saturday closest to the summer solstice, Villa Pannonia will open its doors to the project by Simonetta Basulini and her elaborate site-specific performance on June 22. Until late at night, it will be possible to visit two other exhibitions. The first is the temporary exhibition organized by the Menotti Art Festival Spoleto, gathering participants from all over the world, featuring the works of Lorenzo Ludi, whose textured paintings are created by molding the color directly with hands and fingertips. Concurrently, there is the exhibition of Alvise D’Alpaos, rich in sculptures that cast flowers in a different light, perfectly blending nature and artifice.

The 18th International Festival of Contemporary Dance, “We humans,” directed by Wayne McGregor and organized by the Biennale di Venezia, will be held from July 18 to August 3, 2024, with 7 world premieres, 2 European premieres, 11 Italian premieres, and over 160 artists and 80 events. Revealing the great complexity, contradiction, and mystery of human life is a professional prerogative of the invited movement creatives.

The 68th International Festival of Contemporary Music, titled “Absolute Music,” dedicated to the concept of absolute music, will be held from September 26 to October 10, 2024, directed by Lucia Ronchetti. It will feature important protagonists of the current global electronic and digital scene, as well as performers and improvisers active in the field of experimental jazz, highlighting the processes and digital treatments that permeate every aspect of today’s musical creation, production, performance, distribution, and reception.
