The artists selected for the Biennale Danza 2023 are movement alchemists and their work will be driven by an insatiable curiosity to explore and experiment through improvisation, soma-sensory installation, radical minimalism, challenging traditional dance orthodoxies and altering our states of understanding and experience.
Among the participating artists: Tao Ye and Duan Ni (Silver Lions); Oona Doherty; dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta brings his Cuban company Acosta Danza to Italy for the first time; choreographers Micaela Taylor, Alexis Fernandez (Maca), Yaday Ponce and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui with a four-part programme that includes a world premiere by Venezuelan Javier De Frutos; Columbian/Canadian multi-disciplinary artist Andrea Peña; Luna Cenere; Michael Keegan Dolan; Paris based Rachid Ouramdane; Pontus Lidberg launching his new company with On The Nature Of Rabbits; Botis Seva; Australian maverick Lucy Guerin, protagonist of a special project at Teatro del Parco (Mestre), will be also present at the Arsenale with the installation PENDULUM, created with percussive artist Matthias Schack-Arnott, in which performers roam amongst a field of moving pendulums in the attempt to control the rise and fall of the pendulum’s weight in this eternally moving frame.
In a dynamic collaboration between Biennale Danza and the Museum of Contemporary Art LA (MOCA), and the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MOMA), the Festival will present the European opening of the first in depth exhibition about Simone Forti’s monumental career, Golden Lion of this edition.
Finally the programme will include film works from the Festival artists, conversation and discussion opportunities pre and post shows, workshops with the protagonists of the Festival.
