THE ITALIAN NAVAL LEAGUE AIMS TO PASS ON A LOVE OF THE SEA, THE SEAFARING SPIRIT AND PROMOTES THE PROTECTION OF THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT.
The Venice Section of the Naval League carries out various activities such as the sailing school, held by qualified instructors and targeting young people aged 6 to 14. It allows you to immerse yourself in the calm of the lagoon, in close contact with the nature of Poveglia, using your body and senses as tools to sense the wind and the balance of the boat.
To encourage the involvement of young people, members promote a multi-lesson programme in classes on the sea and sailing in general. Afterwards, the classes are hosted for a day on the boats to put theory into practice by sailing around the lagoon.
One of the most successful projects was “vela per tutti” (“sailing for all”). In partnership with the Venice LNI and the former San Camillo Hospital Foundation, the aim of bringing people with disabilities closer to the sea and the practice of water sports has borne excellent fruit over time.
It also includes the activity of teaching how to drive vessels and boats all the way to obtaining a boat licence.
The Venice Section is recognised by the National Presidency as a CIN (Centro di Istruzione Nautica/Centre for Nautical Education) and organises, for members only, courses for qualification in recreational sailing:
• Nautical SAILING and MOTOR BOAT licence.
• Sailing/motor boat within 12 miles.
• Unlimited use of the sailing and motor boat.
Moreover, it promotes several meetings open to all citizens on Prevention at Sea and Rescue at Sea with the aim of fostering nautical awareness, an appreciation of the eco-system in which we navigate and of the risks, personal or third party, from which we must protect ourselves.
Finally, the presence of a small group of members with a passion for photography has enabled the establishment of a confraternity that, since 2009, has started an annual photography competition dedicated to immortalising subjects related to the sea. Participation is free; the winning photos are included in the calendar that the organisation publishes annually.
Numerous open-air and community events take place throughout the year, from the opening and closing of the sailing season to the traditional regattas of the Two Ports or the Girolido.
