THE CIRCOLO CANOTTIERI “DIADORA” ROWING CLUB WAS FOUNDED IN ZADAR IN 1898.
The European title in the eight-man in Como in 1923 and the bronze in the same speciality at the 1924 Paris Olympics were memorable.
The Second World War led to the destruction of the city of Zadar, and the population, including Canottieri DIADORA, were forced to flee to Italy. In 1962, an Assembly was convened at the Venice Lido that decreed the re-establishment of the Circolo Canottieri “DIADORA” rowing club, which was reconstituted thanks to the friendship that bound some Venetian rowers to some rowers from Zadar, including the great European champion Luigi Miller, who was the first president of the club at the Venice Lido.
The significant attention dedicated to the younger generations, expressed with specific introductory rowing courses with schools through the “REMARE a SCUOLA” (“ROWING AT SCHOOL”) initiative, has made the club a trusted point of reference for the families of Lido and Venice.
For many years, publicity events have been organised in the lagoon, including the Venetian four-man regatta, in which boats from Cremona, Florence and Pavia also participate, and the annual regional canoe-kayak and rowing regattas in cooperation with the F.I.C.K. and F.I.C. regional committees.
In recent years, canoeing courses for people with disabilities have been organised at the Socio-Rehabilitation Centre of the Ospedale al Mare (Hospital of the Sea) on the Venice Lido.
The athletes have achieved brilliant results in regional, national and international competitions over the years: some of them even wore the blue jersey of national teams and reached the podium.
The CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) has awarded the club both the silver star and the gold star for sporting merit.
The disciplines practised in our Association include:
The coaches, who work alongside children and adults, are experts in the field, some of whom have worn the blue jersey several times and made it to some of the most renowned podiums in the world.
