Take your time for the original signs: the Carnival of Venice begins on February 4th, 2023
One of the most awaited moments of the year also lands on Venice Lido
From February 4th to February 21st, 2023, Venice, the islands, and the mainland will hold Carnival events, parades, music, to host a celebration which will be spread throughout all the city territory.
The Carnival of Venice has an ancient history that dates to the year 1000. The Venetian oligarchy of the Serenissima used it as a concession to the population to celebrate freely as an outlet for tensions and bad moods, thanks to the protection of anonymity guaranteed by the use of masks. Among the most famous Venetian masks there is certainly the black and white Baùta, also used in theater and at other celebrations.
This year the Carnival starts on Saturday 4th with the Opening Parade on the water that will flow along the Grand Canal and continue the 5th with the procession of typical boats that will start from Punta della Dogana up to the Erbaria di Rialto.
But Carnival of Venice will also be celebrated on Venice Lido: from February 16th to February 21st there will be the Lido in Maschera event (“Lido in mask”) with parties, markets, games for children, a parade float and much more.
